April 2011
I dunno if I can pick one here, either. It’s just hard. There are so many good ones. However, I think I can successfully narrow it down to two if I really try hard.
1. Jacques and Gus (Cinderella)

These two definitely count as one. Jacques is especially my favorite, as the way he talks is just so cute. And absolutely nonsensical. These little mice are just plain awesome, and they redeem what is otherwise a generally dull princess movie. Cinderella was always too formulaic to be one of my ultimate favorites, but I always had a soft spot for Jacques and Gus.
2. Sebastian (The Little Mermaid)

Sebastian is not just a good “animal sidekick,” he’s just a good character overall. Period. He’s hilarious and performs two of the best songs to ever appear in a Disney film. Any scene that Sebastian is in, he steals the spotlight. He was perfectly crafted from start to finish, and that’s why I love him.
I got distracted by work and fell behind on this again. Oh, well.
Guess who I’m going to pick for this. #duh
ARIEL IS THE ONLY GINGER. THEREFORE, HER HAIR IS DA BEST.

Look at it. It’sĀ lusciousĀ and beautiful and red and thick and perfect. I wish I had her hair, man. It’s why I first identified with her to begin with.
So…I’m a couple days behind on this. Blame my alcoholism and lack of tumbling for that.
This is also a toughie. It’s hard to just pick one couple for me, but I’ll do it. I’m not into the earlier princes, just because they really have no personalities. Except for Phillip, that is, but he also just sucks in general and I don’t like him. So the early princess films are out of the question.
I’m going to go out on a limb with this, I think. Here goes nothing.
Tiana and Naveen

I just like them, okay? The Princess and the Frog is totally underrated. I enjoyed the dynamic between these two, because it felt real. And I loved the romantic frog scenes, especially the one where Naveen is trying to propose to her. It was just perfectly designed and I actually felt a connection between these two people/frogs. Good job, Disney. Good job.
And that’s about all I am.
Epiphany, part 2.
Just like fall.
Some of these are just hard to decide on. You can’t pick just one. But, I think for this option I know what I am going to select. There are sadder moments from non-princess movies (like Mufasa dying in The Lion King, for example), but here’s a solid pick from the princess line.
The Beast Dying - Beauty and the Beast

The Beast is awesome and he’s a character that, despite his looks, really embodies what a Byronic prince should be. And so when that big-chinned asshole Gaston stabbed him at the end of Beauty and the Beast, I was basically wrecked for life as a small girl. Thank my lucky stars that the power of love conquers all and whatnot, or else I probably would never have trusted Disney again.
